New radiotherapy module added to e-IRMER programme

A NEW radiotherapy module has been added to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations e-learning programme.

IPEM has worked with Health Education England to deliver this new module. The e-IRMER programme is a free-to-NHS training resource aimed at non-specialist staff working in radiotherapy. It may also provide a useful introductory/refresher resource for trainees and some staff working in radiotherapy departments.

The e-IRMER programme covers a range of topics, including interpretation of the regulations, the basic physics associated with ionising radiation and the risks, the application of ionising radiations for diagnostic x-ray imaging, and the application of ionising radiations in nuclear medicine and for radiotherapy.

The new session that has been added includes: patient pathway, duty holders, referral, pregnancy and ID enquiries, justification, authorisation, optimisation, dose assessment, assurance and evaluation, and accidental and unintended exposures.

Mark Knight, IPEM’s clinical lead and lead editor for e-IRMER, said: ‘I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to the recent updates of these two valuable programmes.’
