IPEM Launches New Equivalence Route for Full Membership
IPEM has updated its Rules of the Institute to introduce an equivalence route for Full Membership of IPEM, widening access to professional recognition.
This change solidifies IPEM’s commitment to professional development and recognises the importance of professional recognition for those in Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE) careers where a Professional Registration is not required to perform the duties of their role.
Previously, eligibility for Full Membership of IPEM required a recognised Professional Registration, such as The Register of Clinical Technologists (The RCT), Engineering Council, Science Council, or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Under the new equivalence route, applicants without Professional Registrations are asked to provide evidence of a level 6 qualification or equivalent, and that they have completed a minimum of three years of post-education work experience.
Paul James, Director of Communities at IPEM said: “This update to our Rules recognises the commitment of many colleagues throughout the MPCE workforce to professional standards and continuing professional development. IPEM has many members within its community who have previously been unable to apply for Full Membership of IPEM because a Professional Registration has never been required for their role.”
He added: “IPEM advocates for professional registration as the most effective way to provide professional assurance and protect public and patients, this update, ensuring equitable access to community and resources, will support more members in attaining that status.”
