Call for applications for the IPEM PhD in Work Bursary 2022

A CALL for applications for the IPEM PhD in Work Bursary 2022 has been made.

Following the successful launch of the bursary in 2021 to help students wanting to undertake a part-time PhD in an IPEM-related field of interest, a call for applications has been made for 2022.

IPEM will provide funds to help support a student who wishes to study for a PhD at a UK university or appropriate research institute.

The funding is intended to only cover fees of up to £5,000 per year for a maximum of five years. No research costs or living expenses are included.

The new PhD bursary scheme is intended to remove barriers to research training by supporting early career scientists already working in an IPEM relevant field to undertake a PhD part-time alongside their work.

First PhD bursary recipient

Belinda Gorell, a Clinical Scientist in the Radiation Protection Service at Velindre University NHS Trust in Cardiff, was the recipient of the first PhD in Work bursary.

Her research is on developing an evidence-based approach to neonatal and paediatric radiation dose optimisation methods.

The scheme is initially planned to run for three years, with a single award being made each year. The closing date for applications is Thursday 31 March 2022.
