This eLearning course is a comprehensive introduction to understanding autism which will develop your communication skills and increase your awareness of how the experience for service users with an autism diagnosis can be improved in healthcare.

About this course

This course has been commissioned by IPEM for IPEM members and has been developed by the Curly Hair Project Limited, an award-winning organisation founded by autistic author and entrepreneur Alis Rowe. The training is delivered through video resources narrated by Alis personally, who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of 22, and includes animation, visuals and infographics and frequent reflective questions.

The training can be accessed at times which suit you best and completed at your own pace within your purchased access period (2 months per individual part purchased; 6 months if bundle is purchased). No prior experience or understanding of autism is required in order to complete the training. Refer to the training outcomes and topics below for further information.

Accessing the course

This course is available for purchase to IPEM Members via IPEM's Learning Management System (LMS). You should be able to access via Single Sign On (SSO) using your IPEM website credentials, but if you have any issues, please contact training@ipem.ac.uk.

This course is available to purchase via card payment in the following formats:

  • 3 separate parts, each available to purchase at £55 (+VAT)
  • 1 complete bundle, available at a discounted price of £150 (+VAT)

If you purchase 1 of the parts, you will have access to the content for 2 months from date of purchase. If you purchase the bundle, you will have access to the content for 6 months from date of purchase.

Currently the content is available to purchase until April 2026. If you purchase less than 2 or 6 months prior to April 2026, you will have less access time.
