A MEDICAL engineering apprentice has won a category at the Asian Apprenticeship Awards 2019.

Ahmar Iqbal, an Associate Member of IPEM and a third year Level 3 Engineering Apprentice with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, won the Health, Medical and Social Care category.

The Asian Apprenticeship Awards recognise, celebrate and promote the talent and diversity of apprentices from the black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities.

Ahmar said: ‘Knowing that the work I do has a direct, positive impact on patient care makes me proud to be a part of the NHS.’

Professor Stephen O’Connor, IPEM’s President, said: ‘I am delighted for Ahmar. To be shortlisted in the first place was a great achievement and to go on and win is fantastic news.’

Ahmar was presented with his award at a ceremony at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
