IR(ME)R: Implications for clinical practice in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and diagnostic nuclear medicine

The second edition of IR(ME)R: Implications for clinical practice in diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology and diagnostic nuclear medicine is now available.

IPEM has been directly involved in the development of this important national guidance, working alongside other professional and expert bodies to ensure that medical physics expertise and the practical application of IR(ME)R within clinical services are reflected throughout.

Updated to reflect the 2024 amendments to IR(ME)R, the guidance explains how the requirements of the regulations should be interpreted and applied in practice, with practical guidance and clinical scenarios to support implementation.

IPEM representatives contributed their medical physics, radiation protection and clinical expertise through the working party, helping to shape guidance that is relevant to those responsible for the safe and effective use of ionising radiation in healthcare.

The guidance has been jointly produced by a working party that included representatives from the Royal College of Radiologists, British Institute of Radiology, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, Medical Exposures Group, UK Health Security Agency, and the Society and College of Radiographers.

This collaboration brings together expertise from across the professions and provides an important, practical resource for everyone involved in delivering safe, compliant and high-quality patient care.
