We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to lead our Nuclear Medicine Physics Team, and the Clinical Services of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT.
Our physics team work across the Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology sections of the RUH Imaging Physics Group. The team is an integral part of the Imaging Physics Group, which also includes Clinical Measurement services.
The Imaging Physics Group is a friendly, enthusiastic and collaborative team of clinical scientists, clinical technologists, and administrators. It includes and is highly committed to supporting both scientist and technologist trainees via the NHS STP scheme and a level 6 technologist apprenticeship program.
The vital importance of research, development and innovation is recognised and there is active involvement in clinical trials and various research projects both internally and with external partners.
This is an exciting time to join the department with expanding services and having moved into a brand new purpose built Dyson cancer centre. The RUH has two gamma cameras (including a Veriton 360° CZT system) and a fixed site PET scanner. The existing PET scanner is now 9 years old and the local charity RUHX has recently launched a fundraising campaign to replace this in 2026.
We perform a wide range of procedures including extensive use of SPECT-CT, non-imaging tests and some therapies.

You will provide scientific leadership and direction to the Nuclear Medicine Physics Group, and managerial and scientific support for the clinical services of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT.
You will be an effective communicator and an inspiring leader, able to develop the teams and the services.
The Head of Nuclear Medicine chairs the Nuclear Medicine Governance Committee, working closely with our Nuclear Medicine Radiologists and Technologists to ensure high standards and continuing improvement and development of new techniques.
The role requires detailed scientific knowledge and technical expertise in the use of radioactive substances and their application to healthcare. You will provide advice at the highest level within the trust on the management of radiation protection, acting in an expert advisory capacity as Medical Physics Expert for Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT.
