Putting Your Ideas at the Heart of IPEM: Introducing the Members Advisory and Prioritisation Council
On Tuesday 2nd December, IPEM will hold the first meeting of our new Members Advisory and Prioritisation Council (MAPC). This is an important milestone in strengthening how we listen to members, set priorities, and deliver impact across Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering.
MAPC has been created for one core purpose - to ensure that IPEM’s work is led by the ideas, expertise, and needs of our members. It brings together volunteers from across our community and wider profession, providing a single, transparent way to shape what we do and how we do it.
You have told us that you want clearer visibility of IPEM’s decisions, better co-ordination across our volunteer community, and stronger assurance that your contributions genuinely influence our direction. MAPC is our commitment to making that happen.
Why MAPC matters
The MAPC will:
- Set member-led priorities so that our work reflects what matters most to Medical Physicists, Clinical Engineers and Clinical Technologists.
- Improve transparency by communicating decisions and progress more openly and more regularly.
- Strengthen the link between volunteers and our strategic decision making, recognising the essential contribution of our committees, Special Interest Groups and Task and Finish Groups.
- Reduce duplication and focus resources on work that delivers real value for the profession.
- Show clear impact, so every member can see how their ideas shape IPEM’s strategy and actions.
Working for You
Alongside the first MAPC meeting, we are launching a new approach to communication across IPEM, including:
- A Working for You - IPEM section on the website with updates, decisions, and progress on key projects, which will also host…
- Short “key decisions” summaries after MAPC meetings.
- Regular updates, sharing priorities and celebrating volunteer achievements.
- Opportunities for members to give feedback, ask questions, and contribute to ongoing work.
This is about building confidence, strengthening engagement, and ensuring every member sees the impact of their professional community working together.
Supporting the profession today and preparing for tomorrow
The creation of MAPC comes at an important time. The demands on Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering are increasing, and our profession needs strong, co-ordinated leadership. MAPC will help us:
- respond quickly to national issues,
- provide a clear voice across the system,
- and ensure we focus our collective effort where it will have the greatest benefit.
Above all, MAPC reinforces our commitment to supporting and advocating for every member, whether you work in imaging, radiotherapy, AI, clinical engineering, clinical technology, research, industry or somewhere else.
We are excited to begin this next chapter with you.
