As part of IPEM’s ongoing programme of workforce reporting, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine conducted three workforce surveys focusing on Ultrasound and Optical Radiation physics.

Two surveys were completed with the Optical Radiation workforce: one aimed to measure the Optical Radiation workforce generally, and the other had a specific focus on the laser workforce. Data collection began in the 2022-2023 period and this report brings together key insights from these surveys to highlight the state of the workforce and service configurations, demonstrating critical staffing gaps.
