How to Get Professional Registrations: EngTech, IEng, CEng

 

In this course about how to get professional registration with the Engineering Council we will cover an overview of the application process for EngTech, IEng or CEng professional registration, and the UK-SPEC competencies and how to assess your skills against the relevant framework. We will also provide guidance on how to complete the Initial Professional Development (IPD) Report, case studies of individual experiences of putting together portfolios. Finally, we will look at some frequently asked questions.

Volunteer Bios

Ryan Young:

Ryan Young CEng MSc MIPEM MIET, Deputy head of Engineering at Christie Medical Physics and Engineering. Chartered Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the NHS. Current IPEM IEng Registrar, previously EngTech Registrar and also currently a RCT Assessor for IPEM.

Curtis Mitchell:

I am a Senior Medical Engineer currently working at The James Paget University Hospital. I have been working in Medical Engineering at this Trust for nearly 11 years, initially starting as an Apprentice Technician in 2014. I am also a Volunteer Assistant Engineering Technician Registrar with IPEM, and it is a privilege to help others become professionally registered and contribute towards improving standards in my field. I gained my EngTech and RCT Professional Registration in 2020 and am currently working towards my IEng status.

Giles Bostock:

Senior Radiotherapy engineer at the Royal Free London, North Middlesex Hospital. Registered IEng with 20 years of experience of working in the NHS.

Professional interests include quality management in radiotherapy and expanding the role of engineering technologists within the radiotherapy profession.

Ed Chadwick:

Ed Chadwick is Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of Research in the School of Engineering at Aberdeen. He is a Chartered Engineer with a first degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Bioengineering. He has an interest in rehabilitation engineering and orthopaedic biomechanics, and extensive experience in upper limb musculoskeletal modelling and 3D movement analysis. He has worked closely with clinicians in the development of assistive technologies such as functional electrical stimulation for upper limb function. He has developed and taught biomedical engineering programmes at Masters level for several years, and is currently the Chair of the Engineering Course Accreditation Panel for IPEM.
