Special Interest Group Member

IPEM's Special Interest Groups (SIGs) play a vital role in IPEM as they oversee scientific activity in the key areas of physics and engineering in medicine. SIGs get involved in publications, webinars, events, consultations and policy helping to implement the science leadership strategy.

There are currently 12 Special Interest Groups.

AI, Clinical Engineering, Clinical and Scientific Computing, Diagnostic Radiology, Environmental Sustainability, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Physiological Measurement, Radiation Protection, Radiotherapy, Rehabilitation Engineering and Biomechanics, Ultrasound and Non-Ionising Radiation.

SIG membership is very diverse and applications are welcome from:

  • All levels of seniority and age (from Trainees and Early careers to Heads of Departments)
  • All training backgrounds (Apprentice and Technologists Training schemes, STP / NHS, Overseas, people with more unusual career pathways)
  • Different locations across the country
  • Different work places (industry, university, NHS and private)
  • For some SIGs Clinical Technologists are under-represented, so we particularly encourage you to apply

Applications for 2026 will open at the end of March.  Please remember that you need to be an IPEM member (Associate, Full Member or Fellow) to apply for SIG membership.  Not a member?  Find more information about membership here.
