Process
To apply for Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration through IPEM, all applicants must complete Stage 1, which assesses whether their knowledge and understanding meet the standard required for CEng registration. Successful completion of stage 1 also entitles applicants to hold interim registration if they choose to. This shows your commitment to the profession and intention to work towards registration.
There are two routes for this assessment:
- Standard - Accredited Qualification Route
If you hold a qualification accredited under an Engineering Council licence, or recognised through an approved international agreement (such as the Washington Accord), we will verify the accreditation status of your qualification and confirm your eligibility for registration. - Individual - Experiential Learning Route
If you do not hold the required accredited qualification, we will assess how you have developed the necessary knowledge and understanding at CEng level through other qualifications and/or professional experience. This route requires you to complete a self-assessment and provide supporting evidence demonstrating your learning and development.
To get started, complete the Recognition of Qualifications form below and we will advise whether you will need to complete a self-assessment or not.
Please note, you will need to hold IPEM Associate, Full or Fellow membership to apply for registration through IPEM. Please get in touch at profdev@ipem.ac.uk if you are not eligible for one of these membership types and seeking interim registration status.
