Clincal and Scientific Computing Special Interest Group
Clinical and Scientific Computing (CSC) is the application of computer science to healthcare and clinical practice. The CSC Special Interest Group (SIG) typically focusses on aspects of computing that relate to medical physics and clinical engineering such as imaging, radiotherapy and medical device connectivity. It can encompass a wide range of IT activities, in both the clinical and research domains, including:
- Software development and programming
- Software and system support
- Data analysis and data management.
- Clinical connectivity and clinical infrastructure
- Risk management of clinical IT systems
This range of activities is reflected in the make-up of CSCSIG which includes individuals that might fulfil a role in a dedicated scientific computing position/department or in a more traditional medical physics discipline such as Nuclear Medicine or Radiotherapy. We are united by a love of technology and a belief that many of the problems faced in medical physics, engineering and healthcare can be solved with digital solutions, but that these solutions need to be appropriately managed.
Our goals are to:
- Provide advice and guidance in matters of CSC relating to the MP&CE domain.
- Engage with and support the wider CSC community.
- Encourage best practice in CSC activities.
- Support the CSC training schemes.
- Advocate for the CSC specialism to all healthcare specialisms
Events and Webinars:
We host a number of topical webinars throughout the year as well as our popular annual in-person CSC Symposium.
Publications:
As part of our role, we regularly contribute to publications relating to CSC and digital health.
The members of CSC Special Interest Group , who organise these activities, are IPEM volunteers who meet several times a year. If you want to join the committee follow the "Volunteer for IPEM" link below and read the role description.
