Registered Scientist (RSci)

Registered Scientists can be found in a huge variety of scientific and higher technical roles.  They are able to apply their skills and knowledge while working autonomously and have the ability to resolve problems and identify, review and select appropriate techniques, procedures and methods.

Applicants interested in applying for RSci registration, via IPEM, should hold at least Associate membership of IPEM and would be awarded Full membership upon successful RSci registration.

Registered Scientist Equivalence Report Template

Applicants for RSci who do not hold a Level 7 or above qualification must complete an equivalence report. The purpose of the report is to evidence that you have gained the knowledge equivalent to a Level 7 qualification through work-based learning. Equivalence is evidenced against the QAA (Quality Assurance Agency for Education) descriptors.

Competence report: advice to applicants

When completing the application form applicants for RSci will need to demonstrate competence across five areas. Guidance on what the assessors will be looking for under each competence is provided below but the examples are just indicative – there will be many other valid examples you can choose
