Advancing the Radiotherapy Physics Technologist Workforce

As healthcare software development continues to grow across the NHS, understanding Quality Management Systems has never been more important.

This series of two free 60-minute webinars would showcase the evolving role of Radiotherapy Physics Technologists (RPTs) in advancing clinical practice, innovation and service development. It will allow attendees to engage with topics most relevant to their role while providing broader representation across the profession.

Each session will feature 15-minute presentations from technologists leading nationally recognised initiatives, demonstrating how their work has been implemented in practice and how other centres can adopt similar approaches. Proposed themes are:

  • Planning, SABR and Brachytherapy;
  • Quality Control, Engineering and Computing;
  • The Future of Radiotherapy, including online adaptive radiotherapy (oART), multiprofessional target delineation, and findings from a recent workforce survey.

The webinar series aims to showcase the breadth of expertise within the RPT workforce and provide practical examples of advanced practice that attendees can translate into their own departments. It also aligns with IPEM's recent work advocating for mandatory professional registration of technologists by highlighting the increasingly specialised, autonomous and innovative roles undertaken by registered RPTs. By celebrating these contributions and facilitating knowledge sharing, the series will support workforce development, encourage collaboration between centres and raise the profile of the profession across the UK.

The two part series will be held at midday on Tuesday 1st December with the second part held at midday on the 4th December.

Tuesday 1st December

We will be hearing from Daniel Brench, Bob Wheeler, Matt Carlisle and Nicky Whilde, who will share their expertise across quality control, computing and workforce development within Radiotherapy Physics Technology. Together, they will provide insights into current practice, emerging innovations and the evolving role of technologists in supporting high-quality radiotherapy services.
Friday 4th December
Join Lauren Bateman and Natalie Turner, alongside Dan Murray and Joseph Flahery as they share their expertise on some of the most exciting developments in radiotherapy. Covering online adaptive radiotherapy (oART), academic career pathways, SABR and the growth of a multi-professional workforce, this webinar will showcase innovation, professional development and the evolving landscape of radiotherapy practice.
Format
Three 15-minute presentations followed by a panel Q&A session. Each webinar will run for approximately 1 hour 15 minutes, providing attendees with the opportunity to hear from multiple speakers and engage in discussion on key topics affecting the profession.
