Turning Member Priorities into Action

IPEM’s strength comes from the expertise, experience and commitment of our members.

An important part of our role is making sure that expertise is heard and turned into action where IPEM can make a difference.
As many members will know, our Membership and Prioritisation Council (MAPC) plays an important role in this. It brings together senior volunteer leaders from across IPEM to understand what matters to our community and agree where we should focus our attention, expertise and resources.

Working alongside our committees, Special Interest Groups and professional networks, MAPC helps connect the issues being raised by members with IPEM’s wider work. It considers where our professions need a stronger voice, where there are opportunities to influence change and where IPEM is best placed to lead, support or bring people together.

Progress on our priorities

At the beginning of 2026, MAPC agreed a focused set of priorities reflecting some of the major challenges and opportunities facing medical physics, clinical engineering and clinical technology.

Since then, significant progress has been made, from strengthening IPEM’s voice in national workforce discussions and raising the profile of Clinical Engineering, to progressing work around Molecular Radiotherapy dosimetry and continuing to make the case for statutory regulation of Clinical Technologists.

Our MAPC Impact Statement – September 2026 provides a fuller update on these priorities, the progress made and what happens next.

Importantly, prioritisation is not simply about starting new activity. It is about maintaining focus, reviewing progress and deciding where sustained effort from IPEM can make the greatest difference.

Building on our priorities in 2027

MAPC meets again on 1 December 2026, when an important part of the discussion will be agreeing our priorities for 2027.

This will not be about starting again with a blank sheet of paper. Much of our focus in 2027 is likely to be about deepening and building on the priorities already underway.

Many of the challenges we are addressing, particularly around workforce, professional recognition and ensuring our professions have a strong voice, require sustained effort and influence over time.

So, as well as asking “what should we do next?”, we want to ask members:

• Are we focusing on the right things?
• Where should IPEM go further?
• What is missing?
• Where could we strengthen our support or influence, or build on progress already made?
• What new and emerging issues may need IPEM’s attention?

You don’t need to sit on a committee or working group to influence what IPEM does.

Through the Working for You section of our website, you can tell us what more is needed on our existing priorities, as well as highlighting new issues where IPEM should be acting, leading or influencing.

Your feedback will inform MAPC’s December discussion, alongside our review of progress and emerging issues across the profession.

Our aim is to make deliberate choices about where we continue, where we deepen our work and where something new needs to be added - focusing IPEM’s collective expertise and resources where they can make the greatest difference.
