New group to develop strategy for IPEM's journals

A NEW group to develop a strategy for IPEM’s four international peer-reviewed journals has been formed – and wants to hear from you.

IPEM has four journals – Physics in Medicine & Biology, Physiological Measurement, both published by the Institute of Physics Publishing, and Medical Engineering & Physics and IPEM Translation, published by Elsevier.

The Journals Working Group has been set up to gather evidence and develop a strategy for IPEM’s journals to ensure remain a high quality, respected and valuable place to share and access scientific research, development and opinion.

Portfolio of journals

Its purpose is to oversee the development and maintenance of a portfolio of journals that is aligned with IPEM’s charitable objectives, and develop a long-term approach to the management and development of IPEM’s portfolio of journals.

The publishing landscape is changing with a transition to hybrid and open access publishing (where papers are free to read, but authors pay to publish), and threats to research integrity from paper mills and irresponsible or opaque use of AI in conducting or presenting research.

The group is chaired by Dr Anna Barnes, IPEM’s President Elect, and other members include:

• Dr Robert Farley, IPEM President
• John Turner and Jason Wilde, IPEM Trustees
• Dr Mohammad Al-Amri, Director of the Science, Technology, Research and Innovation Council
• Dr Benjamin Metcalfe, Vice President Academic
• Dr Sally Clift, former Editor-in-Chief of Medical Engineering & Physics
