Welcome to the MOSAES Group home page.
MR Off-label Scanning Adverse Events and Successes (MOSAES) aims to provide an avenue to share knowledge related to off-label and MR Unlabelled MRI scans. For example, when a patient with an implant has an MRI scan with conditions that go beyond that which the manufacturer has specified, or when there are no MRI conditions for a device.
The MOSAES database allows users to submit and request data related to previous off-label MRI scans. It is hoped this will widen access to MRI for more patients; by reducing the time it takes to assess the level of risk, increasing confidence in any conclusions about a patient’s suitability for MRI and assisting in the development of any risk reduction strategies.
Submitting data
Whilst we request that you fill in as much information as possible, partial submissions are still very valuable so please submit even if some information cannot be provided. Further guidance on submissions is available below.
Please do not include any patient-identifiable information. Submissions will be screened for sensitive information, including identifying the patient, members of staff, and institutions.
We ask that you include a correspondence address in case others wish to contact you about specifics of your submission, but this is not required. You may request that your correspondence address is changed or removed by emailing the MOSAES group lead at the email address below.
Please keep a local record of which events you have submitted to avoid duplicate events in the database.

MOSAES reporting does not communicate with or replace the need to submit data for incidents to local reporting mechanisms (e.g. DATIX), or the MHRA Yellow Card reporting system. We recommend that you use the UKHSA national taxonomy for incident learning in your local incident reporting.
Requesting data
Requests should be from a registered healthcare professional (e.g. Clinical Scientist, radiographer, radiologist) and for the purpose of informing the safety assessment of MRI scans. MOSAES is not a resource for research at this time.
Requests will be handled by one of the MOSAES group. We may contact you further to seek clarification on your request or to discuss what information we have which may be of use to your case.
Only anonymised data will be provided. Correspondence addresses may be provided for particularly relevant cases if you request.

Publications
The MOSAES group aims to publish assessments of MOSAES submissions periodically, in IPEM journals, the IPEM MR Safety Update meetings, and/or via the JISCmail MRI Physics mail-base. These will not identify individual contributors, patients, or institutions.
A webinar providing guidance on submitting data is planned for Winter 2026.
