A multi-professional working group has produced guidance to support the planning of new MR installations. This guidance is available in two pdf versions:
- Full resolution. This contains the highest quality images for optimal clarity
- Navigation and portability. This includes the table of contents as embedded bookmarks to aid navigation and a reduced file size with some reduction in image quality.
This guidance has been developed by a multi-professional working group, with representation from the following organisations.

- British Association of Magnetic Resonance Radiographers (BAMRR)
- British Institute of Radiology (BIR)

- Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM)
- Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
- Royal College of Radiologists (RCR)
- Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR)
The target audience for this guidance is MR staff, hospital estates and facilities professionals, architects, engineers and other professional groups involved with the planning of new MRI installations.
This guidance have been developed in parallel with the forthcoming update of the NHS Health Building Note (HBN) 06-01 that provides more general guidance for designing diagnostic and interventional imaging facilities.
