The Science & The Scientists

IPEM produces a series of leaflets and posters, aimed at the interested public. Entitled "The Science & The Scientists" they aim to explain the science behind some commonly used medical treatments and introduce the scientists, engineers and technicians responsible for developing and delivering them. Topics currently covered are:

  • Seeing inside the body with ultrasound
  • Improving mobility with gait analysis
  • Treating cancer with radiation
  • Diagnosing disease with radioactivity
  • Seeing inside the body with MRI
  • Assessing the body with physiological measurement
  • Special seating for wheelchair users
  • Treating the body with light

   Improving mobility with gait analysis

A variety of conditions and injuries can lead to problems with walking and balance. Gait analysis specialists study walking scientifically, using three-dimensional video tracking and other techniques, so that they can assess the problem and plan appropriate treatment.
