Webinar: Experience of a National Cyber Attack
The second webinar in a series of three, this session aims to discuss experiences and lessons learnt from the cyber attack on Irish radiotherapy centres.
Organised by IPEM's Clinical and Scientific Computing Special Interest Group
This free webinar will share the experiences of an oncologist and medical physicist involved in responding to the major cyber-attack that impacted all of the public radiotherapy departments in Ireland in May 2021. The speakers will give both the clinical and technical perspectives of responding to such a significant incident, where 513 patients had their radiotherapy treatment interrupted and the impact. The speakers have previously published a report of their experience (Flavin et al. A National Cyberattack Affecting Radiation Therapy: The Irish Experience. Adv Radiat Oncol. 2022:7(5), doi: 10.1016/j.adro.2022.100914) but this webinar gives a further opportunity to learn from their experience and ask questions.
Cyber security is hugely important as healthcare becomes increasingly reliant on digital technology. This webinar will be of interest to those in all specialisms within medical physics, clinical engineering and clinical computing, both for those who use or implement digital technology or those in management roles with responsibility for ensuring safe and effective care.
