A CHANGE in requirements for trainee clinical scientists undertaking the Route 2 path has led to a new position statement being released by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine.
The changes, agreed by the Health and Care Professions Council, came into effect on 1 March and have been welcomed by IPEM.
The Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS) is now able to accept applications with no restrictions concerning the length of experience claimed, meaning the ‘six year’ rule is no longer applied.
The competencies that have to be demonstrated, however, remain unchanged. The ACS feel it is unlikely that applicants will be able to satisfy assessors should they have less than 4 years’ experience and it is vital this includes sufficient clinical exposure in a working environment.
Updated guidelines for applications are being produced and a series of assessor training events are also being planned.
