Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy

22 April 2020

Manchester

Organised by IPEM's Radiotherapy Special Interest Group

Under the current tariff system, payment for SABR - recognised as standard of care for many indications - is limited to a comparatively small number of centres commissioned by NHS England. Among others, the Royal College of Radiologists has pointed out that SABR could be delivered by all radiotherapy centres in the UK, with training, mentorship and appropriate local multidisciplinary team input.

In anticipation of the tariff system changing, and that many radiotherapy providers will be considering offering SABR routinely, this meeting is intended to share best practice for starting and maintaining a stereotactic radiotherapy service, including stereotactic radiosurgery. It is intended that invited speakers will give a clinical perspective, and also address the issues around changing the tariff system.

Abstracts are invited from well-established or developing SABR providers who can offer perspectives on all aspects of delivery, perhaps including:

  • How their service was started (and perhaps how they would do things differently if starting now)
  • What anatomical sites were chosen first and subsequently how a multi-disiplinary team was established
  • Linac QA requirements for stereotactic treatments
  • Training programmes for clincians, radiographers, dosimetrists and physicists
  • Scanning protocols, immobilisation, and motion management techniques
  • Treatment planning - e.g. techniques for reducing treatment times
  • Treatment verification
  • SABR with 0.5cm MLC vs. >0.3cm MLC
  • Imaging during SABR treatment
  • Moving from 2Gy/fraction to stereotactic regimes
  • Follow-up and audit
