Radiation Protection in Nuclear Medicine 2019

Nuclear Medicine is an ever evolving discipline which continues to be part of new developments in both diagnostic and thereaputic healthcare. Radiation protection is an integral part of successfully implementing new proecdures and practices. Following on from a successful meeting in 2017, the aim of this event is to continue to share radiation protection best practices in response to new clinical developments as well as in response to recent legislative updates.

So whether you would like to hear centres share practical experience of a new installation or service, changes made in response to new legislation, experience of inspections, or research / audits of interest to the community, this meeting will be of interest to you.

Learning Outcomes
1. An appreciation of the practical consequences of changes and updates to ionising radiataion legislation.
2. An appreciation of new practices and developments.

Invited Speakers 

 Dr Sofia MichopoulouSofia is a Principal Clinical Scientist in Nuclear Medicine Physics at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. She works as an MPE supporting the SPECT/CT and PET /CT and radionuclide therapy services in Southampton and leads the introduction of new diagnostic and radionuclide therapy.
Sofia teaches medical imaging at BSc and MSc level, delivers part of the Fellows of Royal College of Radiology (FRCR) physics module, and supports STP training.
Her research interests focus on the development of imaging biomarkers for disease characterisation in neurology and oncology.
Sofia was a member of IPEMs Nuclear Medicine Special Interest Group, supporting among others the 2018 update of the excretion factors advice notice.
