Informatics and Computing Symposium 2019: Knowledge Management

14 May 2019

Organised by IPEM's Informatics & Computing Special Interest Group

The annual Informatics and Computing Special Interest Group Symposium is intended as a forum for presentations on current issues, best practices and research relating to the use of computers and IT, within the IPEM community.

The central theme for the 2019 Symposium will be Knowledge Management (KM). We invite speakers to explain how they manage information within their departments. Clinically, Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) are increasingly being used to inform and augment clinician decision making. Within radiotherapy, Knowledge Based Planning (KBP) has the potential to improve the standardisation of treatment plans and reduce the time required to produce them. Managerially many different systems contribute to efficient departmental organisation and information sharing. Amongst the first applications of KM in hospitals were IT service desks, providing an important enabler for institutional learning and a focus for new system thinking. KM covers a wide range of processes from information extraction, collation and validation to analysis, sharing and decision support. Submissions are encouraged on all aspects and scales of KM from complex departmental systems to bespoke stand-alone systems.

In addition to this central theme, the final session of the symposium will be open to contributions on all aspects of computing relating to medical physics and engineering.
