Advanced Approaches to Body MRI

26 February 2019

Liverpool

Organised by IPEM's Magnetic Resonance Special Interest Group

The challenges of imaging the abdomen, pelvis and lungs using MR include motion (bulk, respiratory and peristaltic) and the need to image large volumes to view subtle pathology or small lesions within clinically feasible scan times.  This meeting aims to explore advanced approaches to body MRI, focussing on the abdomen, pelvis and lungs, and to give some insight into the evolution of this new field.  The meeting aims to cover key imaging techniques including diffusion, perfusion, quantification (e.g. fat, iron), and elastography.  The meeting will also aim to discuss how advances in rapid MRI, such as compressed sensing and simultaneous multislice, can be brought to clinical practice in this challenging part of the body.

Educational Aims
1. Identify, implement, and compare and contrast key acquisition approaches used today in abdominal, pelvic and lung imaging.
2. Identify and develop promising future technical and clinical advances in the field of abdominal, pelvic and lung MRI.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes
1. Summarize the techniques which are used clinically in benign and malignant diseases of the lungs and abdomino-pelvic organs
2. Understand advanced approaches to imaging the abdomen, pelvis and lungs using MRI and how these are likely to evolve.

Target Audience
NHS MRI physicists
Academic MRI physicists
Radiographers
Radiologists
Trainee Clinical scientists
