Director Australian Clinical Dosimetry Service (ACDS)

Salary: $145,120 - $164,797 per annum package including 15.4% super
Term: Full time ongoing
Primary purpose of the role

The Director is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of the ACDS. This key leadership role is expected to oversee and direct all strategic aspects of the dosimetry audit program, business planning, talent management, marketing and broader engagement with stakeholders. A key focus of the role is to develop a service with sustainable longevity whose core business is centred on reducing dosimetric risk to patients undergoing radiotherapy.
Key accountabilities
Lead, plan, manage and develop the strategic, operational and business services for the Australian Clinical Dosimetry Service while maintaining its technical excellence;
Undertake business development activities leveraging the ACDS’ reputation within the Australian and International radiotherapy community;
Foster new and existing relationships with internal and external stakeholders including customers, advisory bodies, professional organisations, government, patient representative groups and regulators to support the ACDS’ goals;
Represent the ACDS to professional radiation oncology organisations and other relevant bodies;
Facilitate the development of a database of audited facilities to streamline the audit program;
Manage audit follow-up for unexplained audit outcomes within appropriate timeframes, consulting with the Clinical Advisory Group, the treating facility and the jurisdictional regulator as necessary;
Facilitate the provision of scientific reports, and participation in external committees, conferences and workshops of relevance.
Job specific capabilities
To be eligible for appointment the applicant must a strategic thinker who is capable of communicating with and influencing a wide array of stakeholders including the Radiation Oncology clinical sector, Government and professional organisations.
The director will be a visionary leader who solves problems and is able to embrace the challenges of building a user-pays business providing a service that customers previously received at no cost.
The director will be operating and developing the ACDS in a dynamic environment with competing resource demands while ensuring audit quality and operational sustainability are maintained. Service development will be underpinned by a strong understanding of marketing and business fundamentals and customer consultation. 
Good communication skills are essential and expertise in writing scientific and/or technical documents is very desirable.  An appreciation of the social, cultural and technical drivers for dosimetry audit participation would be advantageous.
The Director will have a thorough understanding of radiation dosimetry and its application in clinical radiotherapy, and a sound understanding of the processes and techniques involved in dose assessment and be familiar with quality systems in radiation therapy.  Knowledge of clinical accelerator beam delivery and monitoring is desirable.  The position requires experience of clinical dosimetry, particularly in areas of emerging radiation therapy technologies, such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and other narrow beam modalities being implemented in Australian radiotherapy treatment centres.
The Director will have a mature appreciation of their own knowledge domains, when and how to seek expert advice and the potential impacts of their decisions. The ability to make decisions in a pressured environment is essential.
Tertiary qualifications in a branch science, preferably physics, medicine or radiation therapy and/or a post-graduate degree with an experimental bias would be preferable. 
You should hold Australian citizenship or possess permanent residency status leading to citizenship and be prepared to travel interstate from time to time as required. ARPANSA requires all new employees to undertake a baseline security clearance as a condition of engagement.
