HEAD OF SPECIALIST SCIENTIFIC PHYSIOLOGICAL SERVICES (CONSULTANT CLINICAL SCIENTIST) - BAND 8D

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Scientist to lead the Specialist Scientific Physiological Services (SSPS) section of the large and comprehensive Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

The section brings together clinical services delivered by a highly skilled dynamic team from across disciplines in Neurosensory and Biomechanical Science. It provides scientific input and clinical expertise to audiological science, vision science, multimodal intraoperative monitoring, gait analysis, functional electrical stimulation and pedobarography services in Sheffield, Chesterfield, Rotherham and Barnsley. In addition to clinical service delivery, the team has input into innovation, research and education and development of quality standards at a local, national and international level.

You’ll be a Clinical Scientist, registered with the HCPC and with sufficient experience to operate effectively at consultant level in one of the areas of specialism and have proven scientific leadership and management skills ideally across a number of the specialist areas. You should possess the ability to develop and implement strategy and share the vision with the team to ensure the section is well placed to deliver and develop high quality tertiary level scientific services for adult, paediatric and neonatal services, in line with safe scientific practice.

Scientific training at both STP and HSST level is delivered under the direction of the post-holder who holds ultimate responsibility and an understanding of the Healthcare Science career framework will therefore be expected. Further training is encouraged, at all levels, within the team and staff development is paramount to our success.

The section holds IQIPS accreditation in Audiological Science and delivery and quality assurance of the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) to national targets is also one of its areas of responsibility.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK and has a strong reputation for innovation and development of services. Sheffield lies on the boundary of the Peak District National Park and provides an excellent location for those who wish to live in an area that includes both city living and easy access to the countryside.
