MEDICAL PHYSICISTS/SENIOR PHYSICISTS (RADIATION ONCOLOGY)

Wellington Regional Hospital, New Zealand

Wellington Regional Hospital, New Zealand

This is an exciting opportunity for medical physicists to join the Wellington Regional Hospital, which is the specialist referral & teaching hospital serving our capital city and surrounding regions.

We have two opportunities for either permanent or fixed term employment, working within our friendly and supportive medical physics team.  We welcome international applications and can offer a relocation package.

The radiation oncology service is part of an integrated cancer centre and is equipped with 3 Varian linacs (2 Truebeam and 1 Clinac which will be replaced soon), Varian HDR brachytherapy, Eclipse treatment planning, Siemens CT scanner, superficial x-ray and access to MR and PET imaging. A full range of contemporary radiation treatments are provided, including VMAT and SRT/SBRT external beam techniques, as well as image guided HDR brachytherapy for gynaecological, prostate and skin cancers.

Our enthusiastic physics team has 14 members. We have an active multidisciplinary program of clinical practice and quality developments, regularly publish our results in peer-reviewed journals and present our experience at national and international conferences. We are also an accredited training centre with an excellent reputation for training medical physics registrars.

Both positions require a completed training program in medical physics, and either certification and registration by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) or the equivalent in your home country. One position is ideally suited for candidates with post-registration experience in an academic centre, a PhD degree and some publications. The other position is well suited for candidates who have some post-registration experience. Experience in SRT/SBRT techniques and HDR brachytherapy will be particularly valued. Specific areas of responsibility will be negotiated to the successful candidates’ experience and interests.

Salary and conditions are set according to a national Multi-Employer Collective Agreement (MECA). Appointment will be to either medical physicist or senior medical physicist grade depending on experience.
