LMIC Sponsorship Award
In recognition of the challenges faced by some medical physicists and clinical engineers internationally to access professional activities in their local areas, IPEM has introduced a new Sponsorship Award.
Through this award, IPEM seeks to support future leaders in the field of physics and engineering in medicine from low and middle income countries (LMIC)* to develop themselves and establish professional activities in their local areas.
The award provides Associate Membership for two years, mentorship from an experienced IPEM professional, a certificate of recognition and eligibility to apply for funding from the IPEM LMIC Support Grant. This grant provides funding of up to £150 per year of sponsored membership. Details on how to apply will appear here shortly.
For those who wish to bring this award to the attention of others, a flyer about it can be downloaded here.
* as defined by the OECD at time of application
IPEM attends international conferences as a way to engage with national and international bodies to support their activities and share the Institute's experiences and skills.
In 2019 IPEM attended the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology conference, which was held in Berlin, Germany, and the International Conference on Medical Physics in Santiago, Chile.
In 2018 IPEM attended the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in Prague in the Czech Republic, the second European Congress of Medical Physics in Copenhagen, Denmark, and had representation at the 18th Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics & the 16th South-East Asia Congress of Medical Physics in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where there was an IPEM symposium. Leaflets about the benefits of joining IPEM were also included in all the delegate bags at SEACOMP.
World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, Prague 2018
Professor Mark Tooley, IPEM's President, has written a blog about his attendance at the World Congress, which you can read here.
If you would like a copy of the Science for Patient Benefit campaign materials, you can download them for free. The posters have been translated into a number of languages. Our poster to celebrate the International Day of Medical Physics in 2017, featuring 150 women medical physicists from around the world, is still available to download.
IPEM's first international newsletter, produced especially for our overseas members, was issued in December 2018. If you have a story you would like to contribute to future editions of the newsletter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. These are pdf files and the formatting, images and layout are different to how the newsletter looked when it was emailed to members.
