This report covers the methodology and use of dosimetry in radionuclide therapy. It is intended to be read by scientific and medical practitioners and aims to provide them with a comprehensive overview of the theory and methodology of radionuclide dosimetry. The topics presented are wide ranging and the content should be of interest to both the beginner and the more experienced practitioner.
Starting with a general overview of clinical applications and methodology, the report continues with radiobiology and quantification of images for dosimetry estimation. Several chapters are included for specific clinical applications: thyroid disease, bone marrow, bone and I-131 MIBG radionuclide therapy. More advanced topics such as Monte Carlo codes and small-scale & microdosimetry are also included. There is also a chapter on practical aspects of radionuclide therapy. The methodology of radionuclide dosimetry is essentially the same whether the radiopharmaceutical is being administered for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Therefore, several chapters of this publication are also relevant to those who have a need to perform dosimetric calculations for diagnostic applications.
