RADIATION ONCOLOGY, WAIKATO REGIONAL CANCER CENTRE

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative medical physicist experienced in radiation oncology to join our medical physics team of 5 physicists and two registrars.

The Waikato Regional Cancer Centre is located in Hamilton, New Zealand. The Unit serves a population of 550,000, has a staff of approximately 120 and includes an Oncology Outpatient Department comprising Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy treatment areas, an Inpatient Ward, an Oncology Hostel, a Palliative Care Service and a Haematology Outpatient Department. Radiotherapy is delivered by four Varian linear accelerators with Rapid-Arc capability and on-board imaging and a comprehensive HDR Brachytherapy programme. We use advanced treatment techniques incorporating IMRT and IGRT and have a strong involvement in clinical trials and research.
Hamilton is a vibrant city in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island and offers a relaxed lifestyle with great opportunities for a wide range of outdoor activities and easy access to iconic attractions such as Raglan, Rotorua and Taupo all within an easy 2 hour drive.

Essential Qualities:

  • Applicants should possess a MSc in Physics/Medical Physics and have experience in a full range of clinical radiation oncology physics activities, including quality assurance programmes, first-line machine problem solving, commissioning and development of equipment and treatment techniques.
  • Eight years plus experience and ACPSEM radiotherapy accreditation or equivalent.
  • The successful candidate would need to demonstrate good communication skills and be able to function well within a team.
  • It would be desirable for the candidate to have IMRT, RapidArc, IGRT and HDR experience.
