INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
Salary – negotiable (within the Professorial range - minimum £59,302 p.a).
The University of Leeds wishes to enhance the academic leadership in one of our most successful multidisciplinary research institutes in order to sustain our growth and world leading position. From this high profile position you will have the opportunity to provide leadership within the institute and more widely within the university in research, innovation and student education. You will play a leading role in developing and sustaining iMBE”s position as a world leading centre of excellence in medical engineering.
You will have an established international research reputation in an area of medical engineering technology aligned to our specified strategic priority areas and emerging areas of interest. You will have experience of winning research grants from a variety of sources and leading research teams. You will need to demonstrate the potential to develop large multi-disciplinary externally funded collaborations and to take on leadership roles both within the research institute and in the wider university context.
Delivering internationally leading research innovation and impact, you will enthusiastically take a leadership role in translating this excellence in research into learning opportunities for our students. This may mean the development of new or extended programmes of study and innovative ways of delivering medical engineering education. As you do this, your work will inspire students on our undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses, and encourage high standards of student satisfaction.
Your influence will provide a major contribution to our strategic academic development and leadership. Moreover your ability to profess and promote the discipline of medical engineering nationally and internationally, will win prestige for both the discipline and the University. Additionally, your profile and stature should enable you to maintain high quality research output in leading journals and at major international conferences.
We will look to you to have demonstrated the appropriate levels of experience and leadership potential that will enable you to achieve and surpass the requirements of this demanding role. We would expect you to have a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent research experience. You should also be able to evidence understanding of the principles of research-led teaching and an ability to lead the development of new modules and programmes of study. This should be supported by an enviable track record in developing impact from your research, which ideally includes going beyond academia and achieving impact in industrial, clinical, or health care policy areas.
