Radiation Protection Clinical Scientist
Band 7 Ref: 188-S077
Department of Medical Physics & Bioengineering
£30,460 - £40,157

The Radiation Protection group provides services to Southampton and the surrounding areas - Winchester, south-west Hampshire, the Isle of Wight & Guernsey. We are looking for someone to join us as a Radiation Protection Physicist. You will support the work of the Radiation Protection Adviser, particularly regarding the use and disposal of radioactive materials, design of x-ray rooms, etc, and the laser/uv protection adviser. In addition, there will be the opportunity to be involved with the x-ray QA programme. The successful candidate will be encouraged to build a portfolio in order to apply for RPA accreditation.

Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust is a busy teaching Trust and tertiary referral centre, with a wide variety of radiological equipment including multislice CT scanners, 4 cardiac catheter labs, 3 interventional suites in addition to the fluoroscopic and radiographic rooms, a large Nuclear Medicine department and six linacs in the cancer care unit. Our service also covers 3 district general hospitals, a large community hospital and various small establishments.

The successful applicant will be registered as a Clinical Scientist, probably having completed the IPEM Clinical Scientist Training Scheme and undertaken the part 2 training in a radiation protection environment. However, applicants without this qualification or experience may be considered for appointment as a Trainee Clinical Scientist on AfC band 6 (£25,472 - £34,189). The successful applicant will be expected to travel between customers by car, ferry and, perhaps, plane and therefore must have a valid driving licence and own transport.

Southampton is a lively city, ideal for those who like watersports or trips to the nearby New Forest National Park. The south coast beaches are within easy reach, as are ferries to continental Europe. There are good road and rail links to London, to the Midlands and along the south coast.
