Quantitative Image Analysis

UCL Institute of Child Health, London WC1 4th October 2010
Provisional Programme

Registration Form

The use of digital imaging within hospital is now commonplace. Computer analysis of test images from these systems enables various aspects of image quality to be quantified such as the modulation transfer function and noise power spectrum. Several freely-available software packages are available to help with this task, including IQWorks (www.iqworks.org), 'OBJ_IQ_reduced' (www.tinyurl.com/NHSBSP0902), and ImageJ in combination with the Tudor DICOM tools (rsbweb.nih.gov/ij/, www.tinyurl.com/TudorDICOM).

This meeting will aim to describe the theory behind the modulation transfer function, noise power spectrum and detective quantum efficiency. It will also cover variance and signal-to-noise maps. Practical aspects to making the measurements will be discussed, together with some common pitfalls such as the effect of unwanted image processing being applied to images.
