Affiliated Societies
The Institute introduced a membership category of Affiliated Society as a bridge for those organisations operating as a membership body for a relatively small, but independent professional group, within the scope of physics and engineering applied to medicine and biology, who may see advantages for their members from full integration with IPEM in due course. The Institute's Rules setting out the position of Affiliated Societies and Affiliated Society agreements are as follows:
| C:20 |
Affiliated Societies may be recognised by the Institute's Council where they represent groups of scientific, engineering or technical staff that are within the scope of physics or engineering applied to medicine or biology and where, in Council's opinion, there is mutual advantage for them to be formally affiliated to the Institute. |
| C:21 |
Affiliation will be effected by a Memorandum of Agreement between the Institute and the affiliating society, which will set out the detailed relationship between the two organisations. Such Agreements will be time-limited and will offer the opportunity for each party to consider whether full integration would be an appropriate next step. |
| C:22 |
Members of Affiliated Societies will receive the same benefits and privileges as members of IPEM, except that they shall not be entitled to be nominated for any office of the Institute that is open to election by members or appointment by Council, or to vote in any proceedings of the Institute, unless they are also individual members of IPEM in an appropriate membership category. |
| C:23 |
Members of Affiliated Societies who are nominated to be members of IPEM committees, panels or groups, in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Agreement, shall be nominated as co-opted members. |
