The IPEM Biennial Radiotherapy Conference, organised by the Radiotherapy Special Interest Group (RT-SIG), is this year being held in collaboration with the Medical Physics and Engineering Conference (MPEC). Running over two days this will be an excellent opportunity to share research and disseminate ideas with the radiotherapy physics community, and to interact with colleagues working in other medical physics and engineering disciplines.
The general theme of MPEC is ‘Fusion’, demonstrating how the various medical physics disciplines collaborate and interact to enhance patient care. As part of this, the RT-SIG invites contributions which reflect this theme of fusion in relation to radiotherapy. Proffered work in other aspects of radiotherapy is also welcome, particularly the following topics:
• Use of imaging in radiotherapy planning and verification
• Brachytherapy
• IMRT and rotational therapy
• Practical radiobiology
• Modern approaches to quality control
As part of the Biennial Radiotherapy Conference, there will be a special session on ‘Radiotherapy Technology in the Year 2020’ which will cover novel and innovative work with potential application to radiotherapy, such as imaging sensor design through to new accelerator technologies. The invited speakers in this session will be drawn from other fields in physics and engineering.
A further highlight of the conference will be the Klevenhagen Lecture, this year to be given by Mr Jim Warrington (Royal Marsden Hospital).
In addition to the conference sessions, teaching lectures are planned on the use of MRI in radiotherapy and on the QA of rotational therapy and there will be a session dedicated to Modernising Scientific Careers.
How to submit
Abstracts must be submitted through the IPEM website http://www.ipem-abstract.org.uk/ and must adhere to the format specified in the abstract submission guidelines. Papers will be selected for oral or poster presentation. All submitted abstracts will undergo peer review prior to acceptance.
The review criteria will be :
• A clear statement of the problem and its significance
• The originality of the work
• The methodological quality
• The outcome and its relevance
Call for Papers deadline: 16th April 2012
If you have any queries, or if you are interested in attending and would like to receive the Programme & Registration Form when it is available in May, please contact Alice Futers in the Conference Department (tel: 01904 610821).
