Learning Guides - Update November 2011
The Department of Health has developed a new training scheme for Healthcare Scientists and Practitioners under the Modernising Scientific Careers programme.  This new scheme will run from September 2011 for most of England (except the Northern region).  Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will continue for now using the IPEM training scheme detailed on the links to the left of this page.

IPEM, as a professional body, has no role in the running of the new training scheme.  However, members of IPEM are involved in the scheme as part of their roles within the NHS.  Former Clinical Technologist training is covered by Healthcare Practitioner Training from September 2011 and former Clinical Scientist training is covered by Healthcare Scientist Training.
   
Accredited MSc courses for Scientist Training Programme

The following education providers have been offered preferred MSc provider status for Physics and Engineering :
 
Medical Physics:     Kings College London
    University of Liverpool
    Newcastle University
Clinical Engineering:    Kings College London


Accredited BSc courses for the Practitioner Training Programme

So far the following BSc degree has been accredited for the Medical Physics route to the Practitioner Training Programme:

DeMontfort University - BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Medical Physics)
